Grigor Dimitrov v Cameron Norrie Head to Head
The World No. 16 Dimitrov has never met the World No. 56 Norrie before.

Dimitrov In Decent Touch
Three tournaments, three quarterfinals that’s how Grigor Dimitrov has gone this season. While the former World No. 3 will be disappointed not to have gone beyond the last eight, he will be content to be coming into his 10th Miami Open with an 8-3 record in 2021.
He could have done better had his back not restricted his movement in the Australian Open quarterfinal against Aslan Karatsev. But as fate had it, Dimitrov could barely walk in the latter stages of the match and the Russian didn’t miss out on the opportunity to seal a semifinal spot on his main draw debut in Grand Slams.
The World No. 16 Dimitrov, who began the 2021 season at the Murray River Open, has lost all three of this year’s matches to lower-ranked players. He was stunned by World No. 80 Corentin Moutet at the Australian Open warm up, by 114th ranked Karatsev in the year’s first major and by 120th-ranked Lorenzo Musetti of Italy in Acapulco two weeks ago.
Dimitrov’s biggest win so far this year came in the fourth round of the Melbourne major, when he outplayed World No. 3 Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.
An eight-time winner on the tour, Dimitrov will be bothered by the fact that he hasn’t won a title since winning the ATP Finals tournament in 2017. In fact the 15-time WTA finalist won four titles in 2017, which also included the Cincinnati Masters.
But since the highs of 2017, the Bulgarian has struggled to reach finals. He did reach the summit clash in Rotterdam in 2018, but was outplayed by Roger Federer in straight sets.
Dimitrov got his revenge over Federer at the U.S. Open next year, edging past the Swiss in a thrilling five-set quarterfinal to earn his first victory over the 20-time major champion, after losing all of their previous seven encounters. His run at Flushing Meadows was ended by Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals.
Dimitrov found his way to another big semifinal the same year, reaching the final four in Paris Masters before going down to Novak Djokovic. Since then he hasn’t been to a big semifinal.
The Bulgarian right-hander was 18-11 in 2020, which included runs to the semifinals at ATP 500 Acapulco and ATP 250 Antwerp. He also reached the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters and the Round of 16 at Roland Garros. So, overall he has been in decent touch all through, but will be aiming for better returns from big events like the Miami Open, where he has never gone past the fourth round, having been there in 2012 and 2016.
In the last edition in 2019, Dimitrov was beaten by Jordan Thompson in the third round.

Norrie Wins Battle of Lefties
Facing Dimitrov in the Round of 64 will be Britain’s Cam Norrie, who ousted Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday.
The World No. 56 served eight aces, saved four of nine break points and converted seven of 10 to win the two-hour-and-16-minute contest 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
The win improved Norrie to 10-6 this year. Considering he was 9-13 in 2020, the South Africa-born left-hander will be encouraged by how the season has unfolded so far.
Beginning the season with shock victories over third seed Adrian Mannarino and eighth seed Frances Tiafoe en route to the semifinals at Delray Beach, Norrie carried the momentum at the Australian Open, reaching the third round for the first time in the tournament.
His run at Delray Beach ended with a defeat to eventual finalist Sebastian Korda, while at the Australian Open, he was knocked out by Rafael Nadal in the Round of 32.
The 25-year-old, who reached his only ATP final in Auckland two years ago, comes into the tournament on the back of solid display in Acapulco last week, were he reached the quarterfinal by winning his first two rounds before going down to Germany’s Dominik Koepfer.
Dimitrov v Norrie Prediction and Tip
Both players are in form, so it should be a good contest. But Dimitrov will be the favourite to advance and set up a third round clash with either Marcos Giron or Taylor Fritz.
Tip: Dimitrov to win: 1/2 (bet365)
