Elina Svitolina v Petra Kvitova Head to Head
There have been nine previous matches between these players including one at the 2016 Olympics and Kvitova leads 7-2 on their head to head. Interestingly,
Svitolina won her first match against Kvitova the first time they ever played, and that was way back in 2014 at the Cincinnati Open. This was followed by Kvitova’s seven-match winning streak which included a win at the US Open in 2016 and most recently a win in Qatar in 2018.
In their most recent meeting on the WTA circuit, Svitolina carved out a straight-set victory at the WTA Finals of 2018.
Interestingly, they also faced off in 2020 in an exhibition tournament and Svitolina had edged Kvitova out there as well.

Svitolina Puts up a Solid Show
Ekaterina Alexandrova hadn’t had the best record against Svitolina before coming into their third round match but she was always in with a chance given the Ukrainian’s recent form.
And the way their match began, it looked like it could go either way, with the pair exchanging breaks of serve, including once while Svitolina served for the set at 5-4. It was in the tie-breaker that followed where Svitolina scooted off with the set, taking a 6-0 lead and winning it 7-1.
Something similar happened in the second set too, at least to start things off, as Svitolina broke first only to be broken back by Alexandrova the next game. Where Svitolina showed her class was with her opponent serving at 4-5, she saved a game-point and soon got herself a break-point that she converted and won the match.
Svitolina had come into her match with a three-set win over Shelby Rogers in the second round.

Kvitova on a Sizzling Spree
Kvitova enters this fourth round encounter against Svitolina on the back of successive straight-set wins, both so facile that it’s almost looking like she has continued from where she left off in Doha.
When she started off with a 6-0, 6-4 rout of Alize Cornet, it could have been down to her struggling opponent but Kvitova then crushed Johanna Konta 6-1, 6-2, giving her British opponent no chance to get going.
In a match that lasted just an hour, Kvitova broke Konta four times and in turn faced not a single break-point on her own serve. In fact, Kvitova lost just three points on her own first serve in the entire match, while Konta won three second serve points from the 13 times she served.
The Czech had earlier won the WTA Doha title, which was followed by a first round retirement in Dubai, making it a good turnaround since her second round loss at the Australian Open.
Svitolina v Kvitova Prediction and Tip
Kvitova’s solid record against Svitolina, and her excellent form over the last one month or so make her our favourite. Go for Kvitova -3.5 games handicap for a riskier one.
Tip: Kvitova to win: 2/5 (bet365)
