Camila Giorgi v Hailey Baptiste Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between the World No. 80 Giorgi and the 216th-ranked Baptiste.

Two-time winner on the WTA tour, Camila Giorgi will begin her Charleston Open campaign on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Italian comes into the tournament with a 4-4 record this season.
An eight-time finalist, and winner of titles in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2015 and Linz in 2018, Giorgi began the 2021 season at the Yarra Valley Classic, defeating France’s Clara Burel in the first round and retiring against Sofia Kenin in the next round while trailing 5-7.
At the Australian Open, the 2018 Wimbledon quarterfinalist defeated Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova in the Round of 128 but failed to win two in a row, going down to Poland’s Iga Swiatek in straight sets.
Giorgi next featured at the Lyon Open and made the quarterfinals by beating Slovakia’s Viktoria Kuzmova in the first round and scoring a come-from-behind win against Serbia’s Nina Stojanovic in the Round of 16. She was stopped from advancing into the semis by Denmark’s Clara Tauson.
Giorgi’s sixth main draw appearance at the Miami Open didn’t last long as she was knocked out of the first round by Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova.
While clay isn’t the hard-hitting Italian’s preferred surface, she did make it to the semifinals in Palermo last season.

Early Days for Baptiste
Facing Giorgi in the first round will be 19-year-old American Hailey Baptiste.
A three-time winner on the ITF circuit, Baptiste won two titles on hard courts and one on clay.
The 2018 U.S. Open girls doubles finalist, Baptiste began the season by winning her first qualifying round at the Australian Open, but was knocked out in the next round.
At the Miami Open, she knocked out Japan’s Miasaki Doi in the first qualifying round, with a 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) comeback win. She then defeated Belgium’s Greet Minnen 6-3, 6-4 to qualify for the main draw before losing a close match to Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova in the first round.
Baptiste also featured in three ITF events this year, reaching the semifinals in Boca Raton in February.
