Tomova Inching Closer to Career-Best

At the start of this week Tomova was ranked 146th in the world with a career-best ranking of 128th. With back to back wins in this competition in Bogota, she has now moved to the 134th spot and will be baying for another win which could take her to her best ever.

Tomova, who had reached the semifinal of an ITF event and then qualified for the second round of the French Open qualifiers last season, last won a main draw match on clay on the WTA circuit in Bol in 2018.

For her to now win back to back matches here, with victories over Anna-Lena Friedsam and Wang Yafan in straight sets, could count as one of her bigger tennis achievements in recent times. Tomova cruised past Yafan 6-3, 6-3 to seal her quarterfinal berth, following on from a season in which her previous best was a quarterfinal appearance in an ITF competition.

The Bulgarian will give herself a good shot at this one given her opponent herself is ranked a few notches below her on the circuit.

Parrizas Diaz Carries ITF Form into WTA Bogota

Having played all but one of her matches on the ITF circuit before this tournament, the Spaniard has been the form player on that circuit. She went on a 17-match winning streak in ITF tournaments this season, which included three hard-court titles but if one thought she would struggle to make that transition to clay, one was mistaken.

Parrizas Diaz went on win a couple of qualifying rounds here in Bogota to make it to the main draw of this competition – her first ever appearance in any WTA tournament – but more was to follow soon after.

The world number 171, which is also her best WTA ranking, crashed through Cristina Bucsa’s party in her opener, winning in straight sets but then registered the biggest win of her career. Parrizas Diaz surprised Arantxa Rus, a world number 83 and a heavy favourite in their second round encounter.

She won 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-1 to march into the quarterfinal, and will now be gunning for a win which should help her break into the top 150 on the WTA Rankings.

Tomova v Parrizas Diaz Prediction and Tip

On paper Tomova looks like a solid favourite but she is only a few ranks ahead and Parrizas Diaz also comes into this match with the sheer force of some excellent form all season. Backing Parrizas Diaz to win this.

Tip: Parrizas Diaz to win: 6/5 (bet365)
