Brengle on Four-Match Losing Streak
It’s been an underwhelming start to the season for Brengle who has won just two matches in the main draw of competitions in 2021. And coming into this tournament, Brengle’s losing streak is already four matches old in non-qualifying matches.
Since her first round win over Wang Yafan at the Phillip Island Open, Brengle has lost to Bianca Andreescu in the second round there, and fallen to Iga Swiatek, Shelby Rogers and Lauren Davis in the following three tournaments.
The last of those defeats came at the Charleston Open last week, which was also played on clay. It’s a surface she had last won a match in 2019, making it as far as the Nurnberg Open in 2019 and incidentally, even that win had come after one year of having won nothing on clay – a first round win at the tournament in 2018 was her last victory on clay in the same competition.
Can she turn things around here?

Vikhlyantseva Hasn’t Won Main Draw Match in a While
The last time Vikhlyantseva won a match in the main draw of tournaments came way back in 2019, making it to back to back quarterfinals at the Bastad Open and then in Lausanne the following week.
Since then, her only victories, the few of them, have come on the ITF circuit and in the qualifiers of WTA tournaments but never in the main draw. This year, incidentally, she started things off with three back to back defeats in the qualifiers of tournaments, before she made it to the main draw in Charleston last week.
And there, she fell in straight sets to Zarina Diyas in her opener.
She has a direct entry into this competition here but as far as her record goes, there seems to be nothing in it to suggest a win is around the corner.
Brengle v Vikhlyantseva Prediction and Tip
No surprises who is the favourite here with Brengle starting out at 3/5 to win this. Backing her to make it to the second round in this encounter.
Tip: Brengle to win: 3/5 (bet365)
