Zverev Stumbles in Miami

After having finally gotten his season going in Acapulco where he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas to win the title, Zverev struggled to get going at the Miami Masters and fell at the very first hurdle.

Zverev, after a first round bye, lost to Emil Ruusuvuori from being a set up to continue the theme of poor results for the season. The German had earlier fallen in the first round at the Rotterdam Open as well, and won just one of his three matches at the ATP Cup.

A two-time quarterfinalist at the French Open, Zverev also has won a title on clay at the Madrid Masters, other than four other tournament wins on the same surface.

A semifinalist here in 2018, Zverev will now kick-start his campaign on clay this season with a first round bye and a second round meeting with a player who has a lot of confidence under his belt coming into this encounter. Can Zverev shrug his inconsistencies aside and claim a place in the third round?

Sonego on a Five-Match Run

A quarterfinalist at the Monte-Carlo Masters the last time it was played, Sonego made it to the second round with a straight-set win over Marton Fucsovics. He won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 43 minutes to advance and set up this meeting with Zverev.

It was Fucsovics who drew first blood with a break of serve in the fifth game but Sonego broke back to make it 3-3. Two games and a break later, Sonego was serving for the set and did that without any issue.

The second set was a cagier affair with neither player giving much of a chance to the other. There were a few break-points, sure, but breaking the players looked to have been forgotten by both players.

Only one break of serve proved to be a difference between the two players, as Sonego broke in the fifth game and then completed the victory by serving out to love.

Sonego had won the tournament in Cagliari last week, making it the second ATP title of his career, having also reached the fourth round of the Miami Masters. Surely form is in favour here.

Zverev v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Sonego is 5/2 to win this but the momentum is clearly with him and it would be very surprising if he didn’t win at least a set in this one.

Tip: Sonego to win a set – Yes: 10/11 (bet365)
