Ana Konjuh v Sara Errani Head to Head
Interestingly, their only previous meeting came at the qualifiers of the Australian Open earlier this season and Errani had won that match in three sets to make it to the main draw of the competition.

Konjuh Gunning for Rare Clay Court Win
This will be Konjuh’s first appearance on clay in a WTA event since her 2018 French Open showing and she would hope to do a lot better than she did then. Facing Carla Suarez Navarro in the first round there, Konjuh won a mere one game in the entire match to crash out in straight sets.
It was in 2017 Konjuh won her last match on clay, a first round victory at Roland-Garros.
There are two reasons, however, Konjuh will believe she has a chance here. For starters, the Croat did participate at the ITF level last season and in the only clay court tournament on dirt, she won five matches in a row to lift the trophy.
The other factor in her favour is her performance at the Miami Open earlier this season which has propelled her ranking forward. Having begun the season at 477th in the world, Konjuh made it as far as the fourth round in Miami and that has helped her rise to 242nd on the charts.
So while her opponent is a feisty competitor and relishes clay, Konjuh will have some confidence coming into this one.

Errani Subdued This Clay Swing
Despite being a solid player on clay, Errani’s performances in the two tournaments she has played on dirt this year have been underwhelming.
Sure, she shocked Sara Sorribes Tormo in her opener at the Bogota Open and then overcame Aliona Bolsova in the second round there but then fell to successive losses. Errani lost her quarterfinal in Bogota to Tamara Zidansek and then in the first round in Charleston last week, the Italian suffered a 7-6 (3), 6-3 defeat as well.
This, for a player who has seven WTA titles on clay and is a former French Open finalist is something she would like to change quickly enough.
Errani record otherwise this year has pointed to signs of struggle too. A third round at the Australian Open aside, there have been no main draw wins on hard court either and that could be a reason why she starts off a second favourite in this one.
Konjuh v Errani Prediction and Tip
Konjuh is a favourite here at 4/6, and while she is ranked way lower than Errani, she has shown a lot more consistency and solidity this season. The only question is how she goes on clay having not played a match so far this season on it.
Tip: Konjuh to win: 4/6 (bet365)
