Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head
These two Russians have never faced off before this in a competitive encounter before this.

Pavlyuchenkova Kick-Starts Clay Campaign
A quarterfinalist at the French Open in 2011, Pavlyuchenkova’s results on clay since then have seen a gradual dip and she enters her season’s first clay court tournament with four wins and eight defeats to go with it over the last couple of seasons.
And not once, in these two years between 2019 and 2020 has Pavlyuchenkova won two in a row on clay either.
Making things worse for Pavlyuchenkova is her record this season. Apart from making it to the third round at the Yarra Valley Classic, the Russian is yet to win two successive matches in 2021 on hard court surfaces either.
To be fair to Pavlyuchenkova, her defeats have come against the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Petra Kvitova and Veronika Kudermetova in more recent times, players who have shown sparkling form too. That said, she was sent packing in the second round of the St. Petersburg Open by Anastasia Gasanova, a player who had come into that match at 4/1 odds to surprise Pavlyuchenkova.
The Russian hasn’t played since then having been out for over a month now.

Potapova Begins Clay Swing with a Loss
Potapova’s last win on clay had come in the Jurmala Open of 2019 where she had made it as far as the semifinal before falling to Anastasija Sevastova. She then missed the entire clay court season last year, and then returned to play her first match on dirt at the Charleston Open at the beginning of this month.
Unfortunately for Potapova, it was the same opponent who had sent her out in Jurmala two years ago and the result was no different.
Coincidentally, Potapova won exactly the same number of games too, ending with a 3-6, 3-6 defeat at the hands of her Latvian Open.
Earlier this year, Potapova had done well to reach the third round at the Australian Open where she pushed Serena Williams to the hilt, before stunning Madion Keys and Belinda Bencic in Dubai en route her quarterfinal appearance there.
Question is whether she can get past her fellow Russian opponent here, on a surface which seems to be neither player’s favourite.
Pavlyuchenkova v Potapova Prediction and Tip
Potapova might not start a favourite but given the manner in which Pavlyuchenkova has gone all season, odds of 1/1 for the Potapova win sound reasonable.
Tip: Potapova to win: 1/1 (bet365)
