Veronika Kudermetova v Bernarda Pera Head to Head

In main draws of competitions, there have been two previous matches between these two players and the head to head reads at 1-1. There have been two previous matches between Kudermetova and Pera in qualifiers of events as well and that scoreline is also tied at one apiece.

None of these four matches have ever come on clay though, so this will be a different experience altogether.

Kudermetova Coming off Charleston Win

Known primarily as a hard court player, Kudermetova looked to have completed a turnaround when she won six matches in a row and in straight sets to win the Charleston Open title a week ago.

The Russian, who defeated Sloane Stephens, Paula Badosa and Danka Kovinic in the process, hit her career-best ranking of 29th as a result – the first time she broke into the top 30 on the charts.

Coming on the back of an average couple of seasons on clay, this should give Kudermetova immense confidence to compete at the year’s second Grand Slam where her best performance has been a third round appearance.

Before that, however, there’s a small matter of this tournament in Istanbul and this match in the first round. Because the last time she made it to the final of a WTA event – in January this year – she had followed it up with a second round exit in the very next competition.

Pera’s Won Just Three Main Draw Matches in 2021

Kudermetova comes into this tournament with six wins in a row. Her opponent, Pera has won just three all season!

What makes it worse for Pera is after the first three tournaments she played this year, she had a 3-2 win-loss record but since then the American has lost five matches in a row.

That included an opening defeat at the Charleston Open two weeks ago where she fell to Alize Cornet after having won the first set.

And it’s not as if Pera had a solid previous season either, having struggled to carve out regular wins post the pandemic break. In fact her record once the pandemic break ended for the sport plumetted to 3-8 on win-loss, and counting this season’s six defeats makes it doubly difficult for her against a player in that kind of form.

Kudermetova v Pera Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova’s form and consistency this season makes her a tough opponent to get past and we could be looking at a straight-set win here for the Russian.

Tip: Kudermetova to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
