Ekaterina Alexandrova v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

This will be their fifth meeting on the WTA Tour, with the Russian leading 3-1. The two players have met twice already this season, as recently as the Strasbourg Open last week.

Krejcikova won that quarterfinal bout in straight sets to get her first win against Alexandrova. They had also met earlier this season in the Australian Open second round where the Russian won 6-3, 7-6(4).

Clinical Alexandrova Beats Williams

The 26-year-old Alexandrova met Venus Williams in her opening game in Paris. She needed just 58 minutes to dispatch the former World No. 1 with 6-3, 6-1, hitting 18 winners to Williams’s 6.

So far this season, the Russian has had a pretty decent run. While she hasn’t quite managed to reach the penultimate rounds, she has done well to reach the quarterfinal/third round.

In Strasbourg and Rome, she won her first two matches but was stopped in her tracks by the likes of Krejcikova and Jessica Pegula respectively. It was the same case in the Miami Open and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix too, where the current World No. 34 failed to reach the final few rounds.

Nonetheless, she did pick up a few good wins against some top players like Simona Halep, Iga Swiatek (during a semifinal run in the Gippsland Trophy), and Belinda Bencic (WTA Stuttgart). While Alexandrova may not have been efficient in terms of big wins and trophies, she is definitely one of those players with the potential to make it to the second week here in France.

Krejcikova Continues her Flawless Run on Clay

Krejcikova, currently ranked just one place above Alexandrova, is enjoying her singles breakthrough season at the moment. Having established herself superbly on the doubles circuit, the 25-year-old has now set her sights on the singles.

In her opening match, however, she did struggle a bit against Kristyna Pliskova. It took Krejcikova a little over two hours to beat her compatriot in 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

The Czech won her first WTA singles title in Strasbourg Open last week, beating Sorana Cirstea in the final. Earlier in the season, Krejcikova was also the runner-up in the WTA Dubai where she fell to Garbine Muguruza in the final.

The fact that she started the year as World No. 65 and is close to cracking the top 30 now alone speaks scores about her form and abilities as a player.

Even on the doubles circuit, she has been on fire. Partnered with Katerina Siniakova, the duo conquered the doubles crown in the Gippsland Trophy and Madrid Open, while settling for the runners-up trophy in the Australian Open. Krejcikova also won the Australian Open Mixed Doubles alongside Rajeev Ram.

Alexandrova v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

The Russian may hold a lead in the head-to-head tally but Krejcikova is in a far superior form. This will be a good game, one that has all the markings of being a three-set affair.
