Matteo Berrettini v Federico Coria Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting at the ATP level between these two and Berrettini had won that in straight in 2020 in Rome. They had also faced off at the Challenger level which Berrettini had won too, also on clay.

Berrettini Stretched by Daniel
The Italian and world number nine was a 3/50 favourite to win his opener and while he did, Berrettini also surprisingly dropped a set to Taro Daniel.
Why surprising? Because obviously he was a sweeping favourite but more vitally he had come into this tournament on the back of some brilliant form, winning 10 of his 13 matches on clay.
Also because when Berrettini raced off to bagel Daniel in the first set in 26 minutes, it looked like the match would be done in less than an hour and a half even.
He was stretched a little in the second, but even then did not face a single break-point to take a two to nothing lead. It was in the third that Daniel held on to his own serve and in what turned out to be a cagey affair, there ended up being just one break-point all set – it went to Daniel and he converted to win the set.
Berrettini stormed back in the fourth to break Daniel early and lost just three points on his serve to clinch the encounter and set up a second round berth against one who is more of a clay court specialist.

Coria Sends Lopez Packing
Having played almost all of his career, it’s a surprise Coria had participated in just one previous French Open edition, making the third round last season. He had ‘stunned’ Benoit Paire to get there and now has an opportunity to do the same.
Except, Berrettini is no Benoit and Coria will need to do a lot better than what his career-best ranking of 83rd suggests.
Meanwhile, Coria will look to garner confidence from his first round win against Feliciano Lopez, using up just three sets and exactly two hours to get there. He won 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2 to carve out the victory and was broken just once in the entire match.
Coria’s biggest positive from his opening win other than it being a straight-set one was the mere 18 unforced errors he made throughout the encounter. He would be under a lot more pressure from Berrettini and if he can maintain those levels even in his second round encounter, who knows we might see a ripper of a contest.
Berrettini v Coria Prediction and Tip
At 1/12 we believe Berrettini is too short to win this against a player who can push opponents on clay. The games handicap, as a result, looks like a tempting option.
Tip: Games Handicap Coria +8.5: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
