Rafael Nadal v Richard Gasquet Head to Head
This is one of the longest history of head to head that Nadal has with anyone other than Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
Nadal and Gasquet faced off for the first time on the Challenger circuit in 2003 and the Spaniard had lost that match. Since then there have been 16 meetings between these two players on the ATP circuit and Davis Cup and Nadal has won every single time. It’s 6-0 on clay with their most recent meeting coming at the 2018 French Open where Nadal dropped only seven games before winning it.

Nadal Saves Set-Point But Easy Winner
Nadal had praised Alexei Popyrin the last time they had faced off and for a while it looked like the Aussie could push him into a fourth set.
It turned out okay for Nadal in the end though as he cruised to a straight set, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Popyrin to move to round two yet again. Nadal was on court for two hours and 26 minutes for his opener.
Nadal faced some resistance in the first set before he managed to break his opponent in the eighth game before closing it out in the ninth. The second set, on the other hand, was one-way traffic as Nadal raced away to a 4-0 lead and never looked like he would be broken back.
But just as things were going his way, the world number three faced a break-point in the fourth game of the third set and was then broken in the sixth game. And with Popyrin serving for the set, Nadal actually faced tw0 set-points on his serve before breaking back and then scooping the set – and match – in a tie-breaker.
It would have been a surprise if Nadal did lose the set, something he hasn’t often done at Roland-Garros.

Gasquet Inks Easy Win over Gaston
After getting knocked out in the first round of last year’s French Open, Gasquet did manage to kick-start this season of clay on a high with a couple of quarterfinal appearances under his belt.
Gasquet made it that far at Lyon Open and Parma Open, which included a win over Diego Schwartzman but up against Hugo Gaston in the first round here, he was not too short (8/11) to make it through to second round.
That he did it so easily would have been a major boost to his confidence going into an important match like this one against Nadal. He registered a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over Gaston in just an hour and 41 minutes, and this was down to the 17 break-points he had in the encounter.
The Frenchman converted six of them and was himself broken just once to see himself through to round two. Going further, however, just hit a roadblock.
Nadal v Gasquet Prediction and Tip
It’s a no-brainer for a Nadal straight-set win despite his third set mini-collapse against Popyrin.
