Aslan Karatsev v Philipp Kohlschreiber Head to Head
The German won their only previous meeting in Moscow in 2015, winning the Round of 16 contest in three sets.

Aslan Karatsev got his Roland Garros campaign off to a brilliant start as he eased into the second round with a straight sets win against American qualifier Jenson Brooksby on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Russian, who has had a terrific year so far, faced just one break point in the entire match as he took the one-hour-and-59-minute contest 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Winning 80% first serve points and 65% on second serve, Karatsev broke his opponent four times in the match, while getting broken once.
It was the 24th seed’s first main-draw appearance on Parisian clay, and he looked in relative ease as he improved to 22-8 overall and 9-5 on clay this year.
In what has been a breakthrough year, Karatsev reached the semifinals of the Australian Open on his Grand Slam debut, won his maiden ATP title in Dubai and finished runner-up at the Serbia Open.
Coming through the qualifiers at the Australian Open, Karatsev became the first player in the Open era to reach the semifinals on his Grand Slam debut. The Russian defeated Gianluca Mager, Egor Gerasimov, Diego Schartzman, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Grigor Dimitrov en route the semifinal before being defeated by Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Karatsev carried that momentum to Dubai, where he defeated Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, Andrey Rublev in the semifinals and Lloyd Harris in the final to lift his first career title.
On clay, he reached the final of the Serbia Open by scoring a shock defeat over Djokovic in the semifinal, but couldn’t win a second title, going down to Matteo Berrettini in the final.

Kohlschreiber Wins Battle of 37-Year-Olds
Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber extended his dominance over fellow 37-year-old Fernando Verdasco, defeating the Spaniard in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday.
The German, ranked 132nd in the world, needed two hours and 52 minutes to beat the World No. 99, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. It was Kohschreiber’s seventh win against Verdasco in what was an 11th meeting between the two.
A former World No. 16, Kohlschreiber had come into the tournament with a 0-1 record in 2021, having lost to Dominik Koepfer in the first round in Munich.
Making his 17th main draw appearance at the Paris major, Kohschreiber had 10 aces, 35 winners and 28 unforced errors against Verdasco’s 7 aces, 40 winners and 49 unforced errors.
The German broke Verdasco four times from 17 breaking opportunities, while saving 13 of 16 break points.
The vastly experienced Kohlschreiber has eight ATP titles from a total of 18 career finals and six of those have been won on clay. He has a winning record on all the surfaces but has been off color since last year, when he had a 2-7 season.
A 2012 Wimbledon quarterfinalist, the German’s best performance at the French Open was a Round of 16 appearance in 2013.

Karatsev is in terrific form and beating him will be an uphill task for the German. Expect the Russian to ease into the third round.
