Katerina Siniakova v Tamara Zidansek Head to Head

At the highest level, there have been two previous matches between these players and Zidansek has won both times.

The first of those came at the 2019 Nurnberg Open where Zidansek won in straight sets to make it to the final, before she came through in three sets in Prague last season.

In 2014, there had been one earlier meeting at the ITF circuit and Siniakova had won that one for the loss of just two games.

Siniakova Shocks In-Form Kudermetova

Veronika Kudermetova had been in the form of her life coming into this year’s French Open but Siniakova fought valiantly in a battle lasting a little less than three hours to claim the win.

She won 7-6 (7), 5-7, 7-5 to make it to the third round here for the fourth successive time, having also entered round four in 2019 as her best major showing.

Such were the fine margins in the encounter that players broke the other five times and Kudermetova even won one more point than her opponent in the entire match, 126-125, but it was Siniakova’s ability to hold her nerves in the opening tie-breaker that helped her through.

Even there, Siniakova needed three set-points to claim the set before Kudermetova came back from 0-3 down in the second to level the match. In the final set, it was Kudermetova who took a 5-1 lead but Siniakova’s tenacity shone through as she won six games in a row to complete a comeback-from-behind win.

Zidansek Continues to March On from Andreescu Victory

It had taken Zidansek three hours and 23 minutes to win her opening round match against Bianca Andreescu but that lengthy encounter didn’t bother her too much when she took on Madison Brengle in round two.

In what turned out to be a total contrast to her opening win. Zidansek routed Brengle in straight sets with the match lasting a mere hour and seven minutes. She won 6-4, 6-1 to claim a place in the third round, her best ever showing in a Grand Slam competition.

Zidansek did give Brengle a few opportunities to break her, 10 of them in fact, but her opponent managed just two breaks of serves. In return, Zidansek made five inroads into Brengle’s serve, taking a 5-0 lead, almost losing that lead before shutting out the set with the third of her breaks.

A far easier second set means Zidansek will hope to go into her third round match less fatigued than she was earlier. Because against Siniakova, she might need all of her energies given the manner in which she went past her Russian opponent.

Siniakova v Zidansek Prediction and Tip

There’s not much to choose between the two according to bookmakers with Siniakova starting out 5/6 while Zidansek at 10/11. Backing Siniakova to get past her opponent here given her slightly better Grand Slam experience and the manner of win over Kudermetova.

Tip: Siniakova to win: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
