Stefanos Tsitsipas v John Isner Head To Head

This will be the sixth meeting between both players. Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head 3-2, having won their last three meetings after losing the first two. They met earlier this year at the Mexican Open in Acupulco and the young Greek won that convincingly.

Tsitsipas In Strong Touch Through Clay Season

22-year-old Stefanos Tsitipas has had a strong season thus far.  Starting the year with consecutive wins at the ATP Cup and a semi-final showing at the Aussie Open (defeating Rafa Nadal en route), Tsitsipas continued his strong run despite missing out on titles, notably at the ATP 500 final at Acupulco against Alexander Zverev.

The Greek’s strong run continued on clay where he won his first ever Masters 1000 at Monte Carlo as well as winning the ATP 250 in Lyon and being one point away from clinching the Barcelona ATP 500 final against Rafael Nadal.

Tsitsipas came to the French Open as third in line among favorites for the title behind Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic and was up against French veteran Jeremy Chardy in the opening round. The fifth seed played a good match overall after a difficult start where he was pushed to a tiebreak, but it was clinical sailing thereafter for Tsitsipas.

Up against Pedro Martinez from Spain in the second round, once expected a smooth passage for Tsitsipas to the round of 32, and while it was a straight sets win, the Greek had his lapses in each of the three sets. The match seesawed more than the scoreline depicts and Tsitsipas had to fight back from being broken in each of the three sets.

However, the number five seed progresses to the third round where he faces the daunting John Isner serve.

Isner Serve Proving Potent On Clay

36-year-old John Isner is best known for his big serve and that has remained trademark even at this tournament. Once ranked as high as number eight in the world, the American is a former Wimbledon semi-finalist as well as an ATP 1000 Masters champion at the Miami Open.

Due to a mix of injuries and poor form, Isner has dropped to number 34 in the rankings and has not played as much this year either. Skipping the Australian Open, Isner did not have the best of hard and indoor seasons before heading over to the clay.

His only appearance on the clay was at the Madrid Masters where the faster surface suited him as he made the quarter-finals defeating Roberto Bautista Agut and Andrey Rublev before losing out to Dominic Thiem.

The Isner serve has been on show this week as he has done well to defeat compatriot Sam Querrey and Filip Krajinovic in straight sets as he looks to better his best ever performance at Roland Garros of the round of 16.

Tsitsipas v Isner Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas has been in excellent form through the clay swing, but the Isner serve is not one to ever be discounted as many have learnt. The American has used it well on the clay and continues to this week as well. It is all down to how well Tsitsipas serves and plays the big points on the Isner serve.

Expect a tight contest with the Greek to prevail in four sets.
