Daniil Medvedev v Reilly Opelka Head to Head
Medvedev holds a 2-1 lead over Opelka, last beating him in the 2020 ATP St. Petersburg. This will be their first meeting on the clay courts.

Medvedev Overcomes Paul in the Second Round
Daniil Medvedev’s second-round bout against Tommy Paul may have lasted longer than he would have preferred. Having lost the first set, the number two seed had to stage a comeback and win the game 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3, in two hours and 21 minutes.
Interestingly enough, the French Open is one tournament where the Russian hasn’t fared particularly well. In his last four appearances here, Medvedev never made it past the first round. Needless to say, he has delivered his best run yet in Paris and by the looks of it, it is bound to get only better.
The 25-year-old reached his career-best singles ranking of World No. 2 after winning the ATP Cup and following it with a runner-up feat in the Australian Open, where he fell to Novak Djokovic in the final. He also won the ATP Marseille and reached the quarterfinal in the Miami Open.
On clay, however, Medvedev’s form took a sharp hit as he struggled to move past the early rounds. In the Madrid Masters and Rome Masters, he was beaten in the third round and second round respectively. Moreover, in the 17 times that the Russian has reached the singles final on the ATP Tour, only one of them has been in a clay tournament – the 2019 Barcelona Open.

Opelka Delivers his Best Run in Paris
Just like Medvedev, Reilly Opelka too has achieved a great personal feat by reaching the third round here in the French Open. This is a first one for the 23-year-old American, who in the preceding seasons struggled to move past the qualifiers/opening-round games.
He overcame Jaime Munar in four sets in a game that lasted for a little over two and a half hours. In the game before, the number 32 seed beat Andrej Martin in straight sets.
Opelka’s season so far hasn’t been half as great as his Russian adversary’s. Except for the Rome Masters where he reached the semifinal, the American has lost in the early rounds in all of his other tournaments.
After losing in the second round in the Australian Open, Opelka lost his first-round matches in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai, Miami, and Madrid before finally breaking the jinx in Rome.
Medvedev v Opelka Prediction and Tip
Even though clay may not be Medvedev’s strong point, he is pegged to start this match as the favourite. He has the momentum, form, and skills needed to outclass a struggling, out-of-sorts Opelka.
