Sofia Kenin v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

At the WTA level, these two have faced off twice and it’s 1-1 with Pegula having won in Quebec in 2018 and Kenin avenging that with a victory earlier this year at the Yarra Valley Classic in Melbourne.

Kenin Outguns Baptiste

While Hailey Baptiste put up a brave front in the first set of her second round match against Kenin, the world number five found her rhythm when it actually mattered and carved out a straight set win.

Kenin, a finalist last year at French Open, won 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 22 minutes to come through to the third round where she will face fellow American Pegula.

The opening set began with Kenin earning an early break before Baptiste broke back in the fourth. Kenin then missed four break-points the very next game, but in the 11th game of the set, she got herself to 40-0 on Baptiste’s serve and got herself that decisive break.

Things got a lot easier in the second set when Kenin broke the fellow American twice in two games and while she failed to serve it out at 5-2, she carved out a third break to finish off the encounter.

Pegula Tames Tereza with Ease

Having needed three sets in her opening round match against Zhu Lin, a player who had gone into that encounter at 13/1 odds to win, Pegula would have been slightly circumspect coming into this one against Tereza Martincova.

It turned out to be a lot easier than what one thought as Pegula cruised a 6-3, 6-3 victory in an hour and 21 minutes.

Pegula’s only moment of struggle came when she fell 0-2 down after getting broken in the very first game of the opening set but after that it turned out to be all one-way traffic in her favour.

She broke back twice in the fourth and sixth games to wrap up the opening set and then two more times in the fifth and ninth games of the second.

The American, who had never moved past the first round at Roland-Garros before this, will now have a chance to get to the round of 16 – following up from her quarterfinal appearance at Australian Open earlier this year.

Kenin v Pegula Prediction and Tip

There’s not much to choose between these two. On the one hand is their respective overall record on clay where Kenin has done a lot better including finishing last year’s French Open as a runner-up but on the other hand is the recent form where Pegula scores over her opponent.

This could go into a third set we think,
