Kerber Coming off a Solid Showing

At the time of writing, Kerber is still to play her final at the Bad Homburg Open but the good news is she has finally made it that far in a competition. Interestingly, the last time she did that was also on grass when the German made the title-decider at Eastbourne in 2019 but lost to Karolina Pliskova in the final.

Adding to that, Kerber’s last title at this level came on grass again, at the 2018 Wimbledon, all of which points to how the former world number one is most comfortable on this surface.

Coming back to this competition at Bad Homburg, Kerber will be specially chuffed about her wins over Amanda Anisimova and Petra Kvitova which helped her make the final.

For a player who was on 9-10 on win-loss through the rest of the season and won just seven of the 13 matches she had played last season, this represents a big turnaround for now. Can she, however, continue on the same lines at Wimbledon this year too?

Stojanovic Showing the Odd Spark

While Stojanovic and consistency are as far apart as chalk and cheese, she does have a couple of solid results this season. And that is what should force her opponent to not take the Serb lightly.

At Miami Open earlier this season, Stojanovic came through the qualifiers to defeat Heather Watson and Yulia Putintseva to make the third round. And later in what was her first tournament she qualified for on grass, Stojanovic romped into the semifinal with wins over Oceane Dodin and Donna Vekic.

Unfortunately for her, that showing was followed by a first round exit at Birmingham despite going in as a favourite against Anastasia Potapova.

The question is if she can rise to the occasion in what will be her first ever main draw appearance at Wimbledon, and try and make it to the second round for the second time at a Grand Slam following her Australian Open opening win earlier this season.

Kerber v Stojanovic Prediction and Tip

Not surprisingly, Kerber is a heavy favourite at 2/9 and we think she should have no worries getting past Stojanovic in straight sets.
