Casper Ruud v Henri Laaksonen Head to Head
Ruud and Laaksonen have not played in main draw matches at tour level before. However, they have met three times before this in qualifiers and at Challenger level. Laaksonen has a 2-1 lead, winning their most recent match in qualifying rounds of the 2019 Australian Open.

Casper Ruud made an emphatic statement of intent on his third visit to Bastad, as he obliterated World No. 211 Holger Rune 6-0 6-2 on Thursday.
In what was their second meeting at tour-level, the match was a carbon copy of their Monte Carlo showdown in April in which Ruud routined the Dane for the loss of just three games.
And here, the Norwegian made short work of his opponent with his depth and heavy topspin. Rune has lived up to the hype in his short career by capturing his maiden ATP Challenger crown last month in Biella, but was second best for the whole 66 minutes of their contest.
Ruud was flawless in the opening set which lasted 24 minutes. He broke serve three times and won 11/11 first-serve points. Rune took a while to get on the board, and after nine games he managed to hold his serve, much to the crowd’s delight.
Bar the French Open, Ruud has reached the quarterfinals or better at all clay-court tournaments he has played in 2021.

Laaksonen Ends Ymer’s Hope
Henri Laaksonen played the role of pantomime villain as he knocked local favorite Elias Ymer in straight sets to reach his first tour-level quarterfinal.
With Federer and Wawrinka out of the picture, Switzerland has a new darling in the form of Laaksonen. He has been tearing the covers off the ball particularly from the forehand wing which proved to be problematic for Sweden’s Ymer.
Laaksonen cruised in the opening set, dropping just two games. But the 25-year-old wild card got into the thick of the action and showed his interest. The crowd was also behind its home hope as the two players exchanged breaks early on.
However, Laaksonen continued to pile the pressure as the set went the distance. Eventually, Ymer cracked in the 11th game – the fourth time he was broken during the afternoon, leaving the 29-year-old qualifier to serve for a place in the last eight.
With this victory, Laaksonen has now reached the quarterfinals at this tournament for the third time.

Ruud has refined his game and has developed into one of the finest clay-court players in the world. Laaksonen, on his part, is in great form coming into this match. While this could be closer than what the odds suggest, there is only one winner.
