Varvara Lepchenko v Marina Melnikova Head to Head

Lepchenko Hoping for a Solid Run in Gdynia
35-year-old Varvara Lepchenko arrived for the WTA Poland Open on the back of a three-match losing streak stretched across the Wimbledon, Nordea Open, and the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Having lost her final qualifying game in London and the opening round fixtures in the other two, the American will be keen on avoiding yet another early-round debacle. But then again, given the kind of season that she has had where a majority of her WTA tournaments have ended in the opening rounds, Lepchenko may find herself on the short end of the stick again.
Among the notable highlights of her season are a second-round appearance in the Phillip Island Trophy and the French Open (as a qualifier), alongside an ITF title win in Boca Raton in February. Over the course of her long career, Lepchenko has picked up 25 ITF singles trophies – 13 titles and 12 runner-ups.
Her last success on clay, however, came more than a decade ago in 2009 ITF Cuneo, Italy, where she was a runner-up.

Melnikova Reaches the Main Draw
Marina Melnikova started in Gdynia as a qualifier but fell to Anna Bondar in the final qualifying round. However, by the virtue of the lucky loser rule – for the second time this season – she found herself with a ticket to the main draw.
Just three years younger than Lepchenko, Melnikova is currently some 30 odd places behind the #154 ranked American in the WTA rankings.
The Russian’s top hits of 2021 include the runner-up feat in ITF Oeiras 3 and a quarterfinal appearance in ITF Oeiras 2. Melnikova had also reached the second round in the Nottingham Open as a lucky loser, having lost in the qualifiers.
Her last event was in Lausanne where she fell to the eventual champion Tamara Zidansek in the opener.
Lepchenko v Melnikova Prediction and Tip
This match can pretty much go either way but Lepchenko, on account of her slightly superior pedigree, will start as the favourite.
