Garbine Muguruza v Qiang Wang Head to Head
Muguruza has a surprisingly losing record against China’s top-ranked woman. The Spaniard lost both meetings in the 2018 season, in Hong Kong and WTA Elite Trophy respectively.

Muguruza Outpowers Kudermetova
In a match billed as the power battle, and a match fit to grace the latter rounds of a major tournament, Garbine Muguruza outpowered Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in two long sets to book her spot in the second round.
On a day in which compatriot Sara Sorribes Tormo produced the shock result of the Olympics tennis this year, Muguruza corroborated Spain’s clean sheet and ensured they will have all four representatives in the next round of matches.
Muguruza fired 11 aces – four fewer than Kudermetova – but had a better return of points won behind her first-serve. She won 70% of first-serve points (42/60), and crucially saved five out of eight breakpoints. The Spaniard made amends for failing to serve for the first set at 5-4, by breaking Kudermetova’s serve in the 12th game.
The seventh seed repeated the trick in exactly a similar fashion in the second set, breaking the serve to seal the match in the 12th game too.

Wang Keeps China’s Hopes Afloat
With the expected defeat of Saisai Zheng in the first round, China’s hopes now remain firmly on the shoulders of Qiang Wang. The top-ranked Chinese gave up no margin for error in a spirited straight-sets win over World No. 217 Veronica Cepede Royg in 95 minutes.
The match was not a spectacle by any stretch, with both players failing to hit 60% behind serves. But it was Wang who stayed clutch and won the most important points in the contest.
After taking the first set 6-4 by a solitary service break, Wang’s serve deteriorated significantly in the second set in which she was broken twice. But the Paraguayan was not holding her end of the bargain – and was having a horrible afternoon in the office. She was broken four times in the 54-minute second set.
Wang decided to skip Wimbledon in order to prepare sufficiently for the Olympics. And with victory over Cepede Royg, she has bettered her record from the 2016 Rio Olympics where she lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Muguruza v Wang Prediction and Tip
So far, Wang has been vindicated in her decision to skip Wimbledon in order to focus on the Olympics. She is no stranger when it comes to upsetting tournament favorites having defeated Serena Williams at the 2020 Australian Open.
Wang has the weapons to trouble Muguruza as evidenced by her two wins over the Spaniard in the past. But her serve remains a chink in the armor right now.
Tip: Muguruza to win AND over 19.5 games: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
