Umag Winner Alcaraz

Spanish teenager Alcaraz is already making great waves on the professional tour, inviting early comparisons with a young Rafael Nadal.

And, having won the Challenger event in Qeiras, Portugal in May, he is now a winner on the senior tour, picking up the trophy in Umag last week, after a run that saw him defeat a number  of players more experienced than him, including Albert Ramos-Vinolas, and hs opponent in the final Richard Gasquet.

Already he has a list of firsts to his name this year – youngest man to play in the Australian Open main draw, youngest match winner at the Madrid Open, and youngest man to break in the top 100.

Already nailed on to play in the ATP NextGen finals in Milan at the end of the season, the sky appears to be the limit for Alcaraz.

Wildcard Austrian Erler

Erler was not scheduled to be playing in this tournament at all, but got his chance as a late wildcard for Alcaraz’s original opponent, Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic.

In contrast to Alcaraz, he has enjoyed a much more modest career to date, laying almost exclusively on the lower ITF circuit, where he has appeared in 15 finals, winning seven of them, with clay his preferred surface.

Five of those finals have come this year, with Erler enjoying success in Meerbusch In Germany and Antalya, Turkey.

He will be making his main ATP draw debut against Alcaraz.

Alcaraz v Erler Prediction and Tip

It is hard to make any sort of case for Erler in this match, unless Alcaraz is tired from his exertions in Umag, or becomes complacent. Barring a miracle, the Spanish teenager though should win easily.
