Elena Rybakina v Ludmilla Samsonova Head to Head

Rybakina Went Down Fighting San Jose Quarters

The current World No.20 followed up her strong showing at this year’s Wimbledon Championships with a quarter-final finish at the Silicon Valley Classic.

Rybakina launched her tournament campaign in the last 16 against Claire Liu and made short work of the American after losing the opening set to book a last-eight date with another American Danielle Collins.

The Kazakh star fought hard against Collins but couldn’t get the result in her favor. Though she lost the match in straight sets, both went to tiebreaks.

Both ran up similar match stats, including the exact same number of aces at five, indicating how close the battle was.

Rybakina, who had one of her biggest career scalps in the form of 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams at Roland-Garros, has a chance to add to her gains from the Silicon Valley Classic at the Canadian Open but faces a difficult opponent in Samsonova in the first round.

Samsonova Coming off Wimbledon Fourth Round

Considered as one of the brightest, young prospects in Russian women’s tennis, 22-year-old Samsonova recorded her best Grand Slam run till date at the Wimbledon Championships this year.

Currently ranked 54th in singles, the Russian reached the last-16 at All England on the back of a run of victories over seasoned Estonian Kaia Kanepi, and accomplished Americans Jessica Pegula and Sloane Stephens.

Though her streak ended at the hands of eventual finalist Karolina Pliskova in the pre-quarters, there were plenty to take away from her positive campaign into the hard-court season ahead of the US Open.

Though she tripped in her tournament opener at Palermo, going down in straight sets to unheralded Chinese Qinweng Zheng, she has an opportunity to get back into winning ways at the Canadian Open.

However, it won’t be easy going past Rybakina in the opening round.

Rybakina v Samsonova Prediction and Tip

Recent run of results does put Rybakina at a slight advantage over her Russian opponent. However, Samsonova has had strong campaigns this season and won’t be easy to beat.
