Bianca Andreescu v Lauren Davis Head to Head

With Andreescu’s form having gone astray in recent times, it wasn’t too much of a surprise to see her struggle through her opening round match against Viktorija Golubic.
Andreescu needed three sets and nearly as many hours to break her Swiss opponent’s resistance. She won 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 in a match where it boiled down to Golubic missing opportunities to take Andreescu down and the Canadian coming through through some luck and tenacity.
With the match poised at a set apiece, Andreescu who had come into the match on the back of six defeats from eight matches, was broken in the fifth game.
She fought back to level things out at 4-4 and with Golubic serving to stay in the encounter, Andreescu got her first match-point at 30-40 which the Canadian converted into a victory.

Davis Takes Down Tomova
Much like Andreescu, Davis was also stretched by her opening round opponent but came through in three sets to seal her second round berth. It was only her second main draw win at US Open since 2016.
Davis made it to the second round with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win in a match that lasted an hour and 45 minutes.
After a steady start, the 98th-ranked Davis broke Tomova in the sixth game of the first set, and made it two in two to win the set off her first set-point. Tomova stormed back with a break in the very first game of the second set, and before Davis had a chance to respond, broke once more time to level things out.
An interesting start to the third saw both players drop their serves before Davis forged ahead with a break in the sixth game. She missed three break-points off Tomova’s serve before serving it out to love.

Andreescu, despite not being in form will be a different kettle of fish for Davis and should win this in straight sets.
