Alexander Zverev v Jack Sock Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the players, with Sock leading the head-to-head 2-1. Their last meeting was at the 2017 Tour Finals in London where Sock won their round robin encounter.

Zverev Begins In Convincing Fashion

2020 US Open runner-up Alexander arrived in New York on an eleven match winning streak on the hard courts and hoped to carry it all the way to the second weekend here at the US Open.

Having played his opener against American veteran Sam Querrey, the match was not as much of a good match-up as one may think, given Querrey’s poor run of form in recent times as well as how short he has been on match practice. The German number four seed won in straight sets 6-4,7-5, 6-2.

If the opener was a mismatch, the second round was even more so as Zverev played Spanish veteran and clay courter Albert Ramos-Vinalos.

Zverev was in vintage form and Ramos-Vinalos did not have much to show for it, as the German proceeded to the third round dropping only four games in the match with a potential semi-final against the world number one looking all the more likely.

Rejuvenated Sock Wins Bublik Epic

Jack Sock was once ranked in the top ten in the world, being ranked number eight on the tour in late 2017 after winning the Paris Masters 1000 and qualifying for the ATP Tour Finals in London.

It has been a disappointing last couple seasons with injuries, lay-offs and disappointing form. Married and refreshed and having taken a break from the pandemic, the American returned to the ATP Challenger Tour and remained upbeat about his return to the main tour, as he sought to make a comeback from his world number 229 ranking.

Sock has shown recent signs of the sort of form that once made him a top ten player and brought him four career titles before a loss of form and a long injury lay-off derailed his career.

The American made the quarter-finals at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport before losing out to eventual winner Kevin Anderson and lost in the round of 16 to John Isner in Atlanta. He also played against Rafael Nadal in the second round of the Citi Open in Washington DC and had the 20-time major winner on the ropes before Nadal’s experience bailed him out.

In his return to the US Open, it has been a very impressive two rounds for the American. He defeated Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan in the opening round and then won an epic five-setter against up and coming Kazakh Alexander Bublik in the next, returning to a third round of a major again and looking to rekindle the form that saw him in the top ten of the ATP rankings a few seasons ago.

Zverev v Sock Prediction and Tip

This makes for an exciting match-up and likely to be on PrimeTime on Labor Day Weekend Saturday. While Zverev is in red-hot form and billed as one of the favorites, Sock is making his comeback and looking promising.

Sock will be buoyed by his last round win and will have the crowd with him. Expect a fun match and Sock may win a set, but not much more for the American.
