Denis Shapovalov v Vasek Pospisil Head to Head

The players have met three times on the tour, with Shapovalov leading 2-1, winning on the outdoor hard courts of Auckland and Doha and Pospisil at Montpelier indoors.

Flurry Of Losses For Shapovalov

Runner-up in Geneva, the 22-year-old Denis Shapovalov delivered his best ever Grand Slam performance at Wimbledon, reaching a maiden semifinal, but since then Shapovalov has struggled for form and consistency. The left-hander has won just two of his last eight matches, with both those victories coming at the U.S. Open, before he was sent packing by Lloyd Harris in straights sets.

Most recently, at the Laver Cup, he could win just four games in his singles match against Daniil Medvedev, losing to the Russian 6-4, 6-0. Current form may not be encouraging, but Shapovalov has been a difficult player to beat on hard courts in general in recent years.

It will be interesting to see if the Canadian can overcome the recent slump and string a few wins together here at Indian Wells. He looked to get his San Diego Open campaign ast week off to a good start defeating Taylor Fritz, only to lose convincingly to Cameron Norrie in the next round.

A good run here will set Shapovalov up well for the end of the season and in turn gain in confidence heading into 2022.

Pospisil Searching Better Form

After a solid 2020, Vasek Pospisil has struggled throughout the 2021 season. His most recent disappointment was at the Sofia Open last week where he was a finalist in 2020, but lost to Egor Gerasimov of Belarus in the opener.

Pospisil brings a 7-13 season record to Sofia and is 4-9 on hard courts, his preferred surface, being a finalist at Sofia and Montpellier in 2020. His best showing this year came in Eastbourne. It was the only tournament this season, when the Canadian won two matches in a row before eventually losing in the quarterfinals.

With form not favoring him, Pospisil will take heart from the fact that he has won his first round match here, despite being pushed to a decider by J.J. Wolf of the US.

The Canadian has exhibited what he is capable of as recently as the opening round of the US Open, where he defeated Italian veteran and former top 10 ranked player in the world Fabio Fognini.

Shapovalov v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

Both players are in search of consistent form and results hoping to overturn the sequence of losses recently. However, Shapovalov is a much more established player than Pospisil at the moment and should prevail in straight sets.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
