World number two Daniil Medvedev has had a strong season already having led Russia to an ATP Cup win, being runner-up at the Aussie Open, and winning titles at Marseille, Mallorca and Toronto in addition. To top it all he was the US Open champion earlier this Fall.
With his strong serve and clinical return, Medvedev defeated Novak Djokovic in the US Open final a fortnight ago to stop the world number one in his bid to become the first man since Rod Laver to win the Calendar Slam and kept the Serb tied with Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal on 20 Grand Slam titles.
Making his Laver Cup debut soon thereafter, the surface was well suited to the Russian as he defeated Denis Shapovalov convincingly and added two valuable points on the board for Team Europe.
The Russian looked to be cruising through the Indian Wells draw but faced a shock loss in the fourth round against Grigor Dimitrov after being up a set and a break and losing momentum right thereafter.
Medvedev has returned to the tour this month with his eyes on the defense of his Paris and Tour Finals titles and looked clinical as he was off to a quick 5-2 start against Ilya Ivashka in the second round (after an opening round bye). Although Ivashka broke back to level at 5-5, the Russian managed to serve out the set 7-5.
An early break in the second set saw the Russian go up and there was no looking back after that as he booked his place in the next round with a straight sets win.

Resurgent Korda Looking To Keep Momentum
21-year old American Sebastian Korda had a good start to the season winning titles at Parma, finishing runner-up at Delray Beach, making the quarter-finals in Miami and the fourth round at Wimbledon.
It was a difficult stretch for the American since the Wimbledon run with a poor string of results through the US Open series ending in a withdrawal through his opening round match in New York with a stomach infection.
Returning to the tour in the Fall, Korda was able to rekindle any of the form that saw him excel in the earlier part of the season with early losses in San Diego, Indian Wells and in St. Petersburg last week.
The American has looked to be getting back to his form from earlier in the season this week here in Paris.
Korda won a thrilling three-setter against in-form Russian Aslan Karatsev in the first round and followed it with a convincing straight sets win against Marin Cilic, winner of the St. Petersburg title last week and looking like getting back into his groove.
Medvedev v Korda Prediction and Tip
Korda has been returning to form this week and looked confident and getting back to his ways. Medvedev looked focussed for the most part, but had a slip in concentration that he would not like to repeat.
It makes for an interesting matchup and Korda will be no pushover for the Russian. However, expect Medvedev to pull through in three sets.
