Daniil Medvedev v Hugo Gaston Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Gaston Making Waves in Paris
21-year-old Hugo Gaston started his campaign in the Paris Masters as a qualifier and has done well to make it all the way to the quarterfinal.
Through the week, he has moved past the likes of Arthur Rinderknech, Pablo Carreno Busta, and most recently, Carlos Alcaraz. This string of results also marks one of his best performances on the ATP Tour.
The young Frenchman, who is currently ranked World No. 103, has spent the majority of his 2021 season on the Challenger circuit in a bid to build his form and get some experience. His efforts have borne rewards – Gaston was the runner-up in four Challenger events (all on clay) in Italy, Austria, Romania, and Spain.
Gaston was the finalist in the ATP 250 Gstaad too, losing to Casper Ruud in the final. He has clearly shown a great deal of promise but now finds himself against a player who is inching closer and closer to becoming the world number one.

Medvedev, on a Roll
World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev has so far made easy work of his competition in the Paris Masters. Starting with a bye into the second round, he moved past Ilya Ivashka and Sebastian Korda and is now just three wins away from successfully defending his title in the competition.
The Russian’s tally for the season is currently 52-11. Among his exploits are the title runs in the Open 13, Mallorca Open, Canadian Open, and US Open – in addition to the runner-up feat at the Australian Open.
His last tournament before Paris was in Indian Wells, where he incurred a shock fourth-round exit at the hands of Grigor Dimitrov. Nonetheless, he has made great strides on the tour this season and should he go the distance here, he may very well become the top-ranked player before the season ends.
Medvedev v Gaston Prediction and Tip
There is no doubt that Medvedev will start as the overwhelming favourite. He has the holy triumvirate of form, experience, and pedigree on his side while Gaston is still an upcoming player who lacks the experience of playing against the big guns.
This is likely to be a one-sided affair where the 25-year-old Medvedev is expected to come out on the top in straight sets.
