Stefanos Tsitsipas v Jannik Sinner Head to Head
Tsitsipas leads 2-1 head to head. All three of their previous meetings were on clay. They are 1-1 in Rome and Tsitsipas won their only meeting last year in Barcelona.

World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas survived a five-set thriller against the United States’ Taylor Fritz to enter the quarterfinals in Melbourne for the third time in his career. The two-time Australian Open semifinalist needed three hour and 23 minutes to dispatch the 20th seed 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Greek converted three of five break points while his opponent missed 13 break point chances, converting just two of 15 in the match. None of them would hurt him more than the two he missed while 3-5 down in the fourth set. Having been broken in the previous game, Fritz had a chance to break right back and stop Tsitsipas from taking the match to the fifth set. The American took a 15-40 lead on Tsitsipas’ serve but the Greek saved both of those break points before holding serve to draw level at two-sets-all.
Tsitsipas got the most vital break of the match in the ninth game of the third set and then had no trouble in serving out the match to reach a second successive quarterfinal in Melbourne.
The 2021 French Open finalist has not lost a quarterfinal match in Melbourne, going past that stage in 2019 and 2021, but lost in the semifinals in both those occasions.
It’s been a tough road to the last eight for the 23-year-old.
He started with a convincing 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 rout of Sweden’s Mikael Ymer, but had a tough time against Sebastian Baez in the second round, needing three hours and 22 minutes to battle past the Argentine 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-4.
Benoit Paire also gave him a tough fight in the third round, with Tsitsipas needing two hours and 42 minutes to score a 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4 victory.

Sinner Dumps Out De Minaur
Jannik Sinner extended his unbeaten run in 2022 to seven matches as he stormed into a maiden quarterfinal at the Australian Open with a straight sets win over local hope Alex de Minaur.
In what turned out to be another clinical display from the World No. 10, Sinner edged the Aussie in the tiebreak of a touch first set and then took charge of the proceedings winning the contest 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 35 minutes.
The 20-year-old, who had not gone past the second round in his two previous appearance in Melbourne, has dropped just one set en route the quarterfinals. The Italian began his campaign with a 6-4, 7-5, 6-1 drubbing over Portugal’s Joao Sousa. He then breezed past the United States’ Steve Johnson 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 before being tested by Taro Daniel in the third round. The Japanese took a set off Sinner, but the Italian won 6-4, -6, 6-3, 6-1.
A quarterfinalist at the French Open in 2020, Sinner had won all three of his matches at the ATP Cup this year.
Against De Minaur on Monday, Sinner saved four break points in a competitive first set and two in the first game of the second to frustrate the Aussie. The Italian converted three of six break points in the match and saved seven of eight.
Winning 26 of 32 net points, Sinner struck a total of 35 winners and 30 unforced errors against his opponent’s 24 winners and 37 unforced errors.
A five-time champion on the tour, Sinner is coming off a 49-22 season that saw him feature in five finals and win four of those titles. On Wednesday, he will be aiming to reach a maiden Grand Slam semifinal.

Tsitsipas will be prepared for another gruelling contest, but he should still be able to use his experience to edge out the rising Italian in the quarterfinal.
