Lucas Pouille v Radu Albot Head to Head

While they have never met at the highest level on the ATP tour, there has been one meeting on the Challenger circuit way back in 2014. That happened on clay and Pouille had come away a winner.

Pouille Halts Some of His Struggles

It has been a forgettable couple of years for Pouille and as a result, coming into this first round encounter here in Marseille he was rather long odds at 14/5 to defeat Tallon Griekspoor.

A fighting, three-set victory that followed would have given Pouille something of a respite after having not made it past the first round at five tournaments he has played. In fact his only win before this victory over Griekspoor came on the Challenger circuit where he won a round.

Now, with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win against the much-fancied Griekspoor, especially one that saw him run through his opponent in the final set despite losing the second, Pouille would have regained some of his lost confidence.

Question is if that would be enough against a player ranked 97th but in some touch coming into this tournament.

Albot Continues to Sparkle

Albot had fallen to 124th in the world at the start of the season, forcing him to play in the qualifiers at Australian Open.

Not only did he make it through to the main draw there, Albot also won a couple of rounds to reach the third at the season’s opening Grand Slam.

A first round win earlier this month in Pune and another opening round victory here against Denis Novak has been enough for him to break back into the top 100. And while he needed to come back from a set down to win his opener against Novak, Albot has shown enough sparkle this season to allow him to take a lot of confidence with him in this encounter.

Can he make it to quarterfinal in Marseille in his very first attempt here?

Pouille v Albot Prediction and Tip

While Pouille has the experience of playing at home, Albot’s recent form should be good enough to see him through to the last eight.

Tip: Albot to win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
