Taking on Oscar Otte in his opener, Carreno Busta registered a 6-2, 6-4 win with the match lasting a mere hour and 17 minutes.
Carreno Busta faced a mere three break-points in the entire match and saved all of them while breaking his opponent three times of the nine chances he managed. And it started in the very first game of the match where Carreno Busta broke Otte off the first opportunity he had.
Never looking back after that, the world number 17 got past Otte’s serve one more time to wrap up the set before breaking him in the very first game of the second set too.
While Otte held on for the rest of the match, it was enough for Carreno Busta to come through. This follows his 7-2 win-loss record on hard court surfaces this year before this competition.

Giron Benefits from Millman Retirement
Giron was a set and a break up before his first round opponent John Millman retired from their first round match to allow the American to make it to the next stage for the third tournament in a row.
This continuing form would come up as a bit of relief for Giron who had begun the season with three successive first round losses.
Following that, however, Giron bounced back with a semifinal appearance at Dallas and followed that up with a second round appearance in Delray Beach. And here, at Acapulco, in a match that finished an hour and a half into it, he traded four breaks with Millman in the first set before capturing the tie-breaker to take the lead.
Another break got him a 2-0 lead in the second set before his Aussie opponent had to retire from the encounter.
