Belinda Bencic lost the 3 previous matches she played and the Swiss player is not particularly enjoying life on tour at the moment. After having somewhat of a strong year last year the Swiss player failed up to follow that with a meaningful start this year.
Only 5-5 on the year, Bencic is desperately looking for a good run that would bring her confidence back to where it needs to be for her to perform well on the tour. Last week’s disappointment against Kaia Kanepi in Indian Wells certainly showed that she is struggling with her tennis.
The courts in Miami play a bit faster than in Indian Wells and that should help her out a bit. Kostyuk is a very tough opponent for her and has a game that can damage her if she is not careful so she will need to be very alert in this matchup.

Kostyuk Battling On
Marta Kostyuk is playing very good tennis at the moment especially considering her country is getting torn apart with war. Perhaps that is actually inspiring Kostyuk to do well at the moment similar to her compatriot Dayana Yastremska. The Ukrainian faced issues against Van Uytvanck in the first round but battled back for the comeback.
It’s been a solid year for the young player as she has a 10-6 record with some strong victories. It’s a year in which Kostyuk is looking to consolidate herself as a strong top 50 player in hopes of getting as high as her potential can take her.
A lot of will depend on her consistency which is an issue for her as for many other inexperienced tennis players. A good test will be Bencic who will make things quite uncomfortable for her.
Bencic v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip
They have never played before which makes this a tricky thing to call. When comparing forms in the past few weeks it’s quite clear that Kostyuk has had more success and more win however Bencic si a quality player capable of flipping the switch at any time to discounting her would be silly.
Kostyuk plays quite similarly to Kanepi hitting the ball very hard and Bencic had a lot of issues with that last week. There is also the factor of the wind which will impact the match. Generally speaking, Bencic should be able to edge out her opponent on most days.
There is a chance that Kostyuk plays a good match from start to finish and wins this match but I am more comfortable in backing Bencic. The match will be close so an over on games is also something worth looking it.
