Karolina Muchova v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

World No. 74 Karolina Muchova is set to finally start her 2022 season in Miami after an absence of over six months from the WTA Tour.
Her last tournament was in the US Open 2021 where she was ousted in the opener by Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets. Back then, the Czech was ranking in the early 20s but owing to a lack of tennis action, she dropped out of the top 50.
Although the 25-year-old Czech didn’t bag any singles title, she did reach the concluding matches in a few big events – notably the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and Madrid Open. In the process, Muchova also defeated many top 10 players like Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka, Karolina Pliskova, and Bianca Andreescu.
While she has the experience and skillset, the lack of momentum may make it difficult for her to kickstart the tour on a winning note.

Martincova, Looking Confident
Tereza Martincova may not have had the best of the season so far but it is worth noting that three of her five losses so far have come at the hands of well-known players.
In Doha, the Czech was off to a scintillating start with impressive victories over Elina Svitolina and Arantxa Rus before bowing out to Ons Jabeur. Similarly, in the Indian Wells Open, she dispatched Heather Watson with ease but was downed by Paula Badosa in round two.
Martincova endured a similar fate in Adelaide 2 where she lost to Madison Keys in the opening rounds.
As for her best run of the season, it came in St. Petersburg where she was one of the elite eight after getting a walkover against Elena Rybakina in the second round. She ultimately yielded to Irina-Camelia Begu.
That said, Martincova made it to the doubles finals in Melbourne and Adelaide so she has some momentum with her.
Martincova v Muchova Prediction and Tip
Martincova will start as the favourite but given Muchova’s slightly superior pedigree in bigger events, it may not be a comfortable match for her. This can quite likely go to three sets.
