Karolina Pliskova v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

Pliskova returned to competitive tennis for the season at Indian Wells Open after missing out the start of the year after suffering a hand injury late last year during practice.
The issue turned out to be more serious than previously thought as Pliskova couldn’t take to court till as recently as the Indian Wells Open two weeks ago. And she fell in a fighting three-setter to Danka Kovinic in her first match on return.
The Czech world number eight would be particularly disappointed at the manner in which she lost the match, falling to a 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 defeat at the hands of Kovinic. This was after taking a set lead and going 5-2 up in the second set.
Rustiness was an obvious reason behind that loss but with some more tennis under her belt, Pliskova would now be slightly more confident coming into this one. The one factor here, however, is her opponent’s confidence has grown this season.

Kalinskaya Fights Back in Opening Win
Having made it to the third round at Indian Wells Open after entering that tournament as a qualifier, Kalinskaya was forced to play in another set of qualifications to make the main draw here.
And wins over Anna Lena Friedsam and Caroline Dolehide helped her through to the first round where she faced Robin Montgomery.
Montgomery is a talented but one who hasn’t had a lot of success at the highest level yet and was a 9/2 underdog coming into it. Very soon, however, Kalinskaya realised she was in for a battle when she lost the first set and was 3-1 down in the second.
A fighting Kalinskaya then broke back twice to level the proceedings and while she needed another fighting show in the final set, the Russian came through in the third set tie-breaker to proceed to round two.
Pliskova will a different kettle of fish for Kalinskaya.
