Schwartzman 3-3 on Hard Courts This Season

Whehn the clay court specialist Schwartzman defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili and Stefanos Tsitsipas in a hard court tournament in Australia in the first two matches that he played this season, fans would have been pleasantly surprised at the potential change in fortunes.

Unfortunately for the Argentine, that joy seemed to be short-lived as he went on to lose three of the next five matches he’s played on this surface. A loss in the ATP Cup at the hands of Hubert Hurkacz was followed by a second round defeat at Australian Open – that loss to Christopher O’Connell would have hurt even more so.

And while he scraped through to the third round at Indian Wells Open two weeks ago, Schwartzman was shown the door in straight sets by John Isner in that encounter.

The question now is if Schwartzman can get back to some sort of a rhythm and to be able to do that he will hope to carve out a win against a tricky opponent.

Qualifier Kokkinakis Eases Past Gasquet

It has been a solid performance from Kokkinakis so far this season and one that has helped him emulate his last year’s showing in Miami.

Needing to win back to back matches to get through the qualifiers and into the main draw, Kokkinakis then defeated Richard Gasquet in straight sets to enter second round.

Kokkinakis was on court for an hour and 34 minutes in a 6-4, 6-2 win, breaking his opponent three times in the encounter to get himself a win. He faced just three break-points in the entire match but managed to save each one of them to come through.

This follows a solid start to the season for Kokkinakis who had earlier won his maiden ATP title in Adelaide. Earlier he had also reached the semifinal of another tournament in the same city.
