Jasime Paolini v Gabriela Lee Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the two 26-year-olds.

Paolini, like most Italian players, was brought up on clay, and it remains her favourite surface, and the one on which she has appeared in 12 finals, and won seven of them on the ITF tour.
It was a twist of irony, therefore, that she won her first senior WTA title last year on the hard courts of Slovenia. Two months earlier, she had also tasted success in doubles at the Hamburg Open.
She began her year by reaching the final of another doubles event – finishing runner-up at the Melbourne Summer Set event – and she went on to reach the quarter-final in Lyon.
In Indian Wells she beat Arnya Sabalenka before losing in the third round, but suffered a disappointing first round defeat in Miami at the hands of Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Surprise Qualifier Lee
Lee only made her WTA main tour debut two years ago at the Lexington Open in the doubles, and spends the vast majority of her time on the ITF tour, where she has won four singles and 10 doubles titles, although her most recent success in either format was back in 2019.
She has not played a great deal of tennis in 2022, and, until two weeks ago, her record this year read played five, lost five.
The Romanian managed to snap that losing streak by winning her first round match in an ITF tournament in Medellin, Colombian, but was then beaten in the second round.
Her progress, therefore, in coming through qualifying in Charleston is, therefore, unexpected and, from her viewpoint, most welcome. That is especially so, because having beaten Ellie Douglas of the USA, she then defeated her compatriot Coco Vandeweghe, a top ten player only four years ago.
Paolini v Lee Prediction and Tip
It is difficult to make any sort of case for Lee in this match, given that her qualification was out of character with the rest of her form in 2022. Paolini should take nothing for granted, but, unless there is a major turn up for the books, she should win with ease.
