Dimitrov Seeks Good Run Ahead of French Open

It was a mixed start to the season for former world number three and 2017 ATP Tour Finals winner, Grigor Dimitrov.

The Bulgarian made the semi-finals at the ATP 250 in Melbourne and the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 before heading to the clay season.

Dimitrov made the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 losing out to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, defeating clay court specialist Casper Ruud and higher ranked Hubert Hurkacz prior.

It was an early loss in Barcelona at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas and then despite a very convincing win against clay court specialist Diego Schwartzman in Madrid, it was another loss to Tsitsipas that followed.

With Rome possibly being the last stop for Dimitrov before the French Open, he will look to make some inroads here and get some much needed match practice and confidence going into the second major of the year in about two weeks.

Nakashima Searches Clay form

20-year-old Brandon Nakashima has not had a particularly promising season after having made it to the quarterfinal in Sydney in the very first tournament he played in 2022.

Since then the American has a 5-10  win-loss record including a first round defeat at the Challenger competition in Phoenix as well.

Coming to Barcelona at the end of last month,  Nakashima was yet to win a main draw match on this surface, with a qualifying defeat at the French Open last year ending his season on this surface.

The American has a 1-4 record on clay in the main draw this season, including opening round losses at both Munich and Madrid.

Having to come through qualifiers here in Rome, Nakashima did well to defeat Frenchman Ugo Humbert to qualify for the Italian Open this coming week.

Dimitrov v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

While both players search better form and confidence ahead of the second major of the year, they are both in different places on clay at the moment with Dimitrov starting as a  strong favorite.

Expect a straight sets win for the Bulgarian.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in straight sets: 2/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
