Jenson Brooksby is not a very good clay player and he proved that in Madrid by getting smashed by Roberto Bautista Agut winning only two games. In Rome, the draw was a bit more favourable and he was able to battle past a native youngster who is not yet ready for the ATP level.
Even if he won that match his level overall was not that good as he dropped his serve quite a few times. Had his opponent been better he would have probably lost. That might happen against this next opponent considering how well David Goffin is currently playing.
Brooksby Is having a solid year with a 13-7 record and he has a very good game but outside of hard courts he still lacks the experience to bring that high level consistently. All of these events will be learning experiences for him and that’s the only goal for him.

Goffin Still Going Strong
David Goffin is finally back to playing very good tennis after several months of struggling. The Belgian injured his knee last year and that completely derailed his career by a good amount. It all started in the Davis Cup and since then he has been pretty strong.
On clay, Goffin was always rather good and he proved it this year. He won a trophy in Marrakech and he followed that up with several good events. Madrid saw him nearly beat Nadal and that certainly gave him confidence for Rome. He proved it by taking down Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.
Rome has never been his best event traditionally but he is currently in very good shape having a 12-3 record on clay this year. Overall it’s been 20-13 and he will look to add another one against Brooksby.
Brooksby v Goffin Prediction and Tip
I will look at this match rather simply. Goffin is in better shape at the moment, he has more experience on clay and he’s the better clay on the surface. Nothing in Brooksby’s game impressed on the red dirt while Goffin has looked quite comfortable and confident.
He doesn’t get flustered and he trusts his game. He serves well, he moves well, he attacks well and defends well. With the win over Hurkacz expect Goffin to cruise here.
