Norrie in a Middling Showing on Clay in 2022
Norrie has never enjoyed playing on clay but his performance on this surface in 2021 gave hope things had turned around for him. While he didn’t win a title, Norrie did finish on a 16-5 record on red dirt last year.
Following on from there, Norrie would have expected to do a lot better than his 7-4 win-loss on clay this season.
Then again, at the time of writing, Norrie has reached the semifinal of the Lyon Open with wins over Francisco Cerundolo and Sabastien Baez in that tournament. Against Baez, especially, Norrie had gone into the match at 11/10 underdog odds, but clinched a three-set victory.
The one other factor Norrie will need to consider is how he’s feeling physically after having been forced to play in the week prior to the French Open. A lot could depend on his draw at Roland-Garros and he will hope for a later opening round match there if he does manage to get to the final at Lyon.
Interestingly, he will be up against a player who was a part of the Lyon Open as well and went quite deep there.

Guinard Hoping to Replicate Lyon Form
A qualifier at the Lyon Open, the 158th-ranked Guinard sent shockwaves in the tournament by winning a couple of main draw rounds. His career main draw in ATP tournaments before that was 0-1.
As a result of that showing, Guinard will rise a few places to break into the top 150 on the ATP Rankings charts.
The question then is whether that is more than enough to enter his home Grand Slam as a wildcard looking to cause ripples, especially against a player ranked 11th in the world.
Either ways, Guinard has bettered his showing at any Grand Slam in his career, having made it through to the main draw for the first time ever.
Norrie v Guinard Prediction and Tip
Norrie will look to make short work of Guinard but the unknown element of his opponent, Guinard’s form and home support makes us a tad wary of going for a straight-set win.
Tip: Norrie to win AND Both Players to win a set: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
