Jessica Pegula v Wang Qiang Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both times Pegula has come out on top. One of them was at the qualifiers of the 2013 Shenzhen Open before they met again last year in Doha. Both times Pegula won in straight sets.

Pegula Hoping to Emulate 2021 Showing
After making five trips to the French Open, Pegula finally managed to win a main draw encounter here on her sixth attempt last year. The American had won reached the third round at this tournament last year and in doing so clinched her maiden win.
As far as Pegula’s form on clay goes, the world number 11 has won seven of her 10 encounters this season on clay, which includes an appearance in the final of the Madrid Open.
Pegula stormed into the title decider there for the loss of just one set before going down fighting in three sets to Ons Jabeur.
Sandwiching that performance in Madrid was a third round exit at Charleston and another such showing in Rome in the following week. It remains to be seen if this affects her game in any way.

Qiang’s Clay Struggles Well Known
Qiang’s form over the past couple of years has fallen away drastically and it reflects in how she has fallen from her once WTA rank of 12th in the world. She is now sitting at 100th on the WTA charts.
And that’s visible even on her results for the 2022 season.
There was a semifinal at Guadalajara Open, sure, and a third round appearance at Australian Open but those two aside things haven’t quite looked as sterling.
First and second round exits at Indian Wells and Miami respectively, a first round loss in Istanbul and then a failure to qualify for Madrid Open have left Qiang with a lot to do coming into this opener.
Expect baptism by fire for Qiang in this one.
Pegula v Qiang Prediction and Tip
