It’s not very surprising to see bookmakers offer a stunning 1/10 for an Iga Swiatek victory over Daria Kasatkina in their women’s singles semifinals later today. Swiatek’s form and her recent record accounts for that.
The 2020 French Open winner last lost a tennis match at the highest level in mid-February and is currently on a 31-match winning streak on the WTA circuit. 33, if you add her two Billie Jean King match victories too.
And other than a shock first set loss to the 74th-ranked Qinwen Zheng in the fourth round, Swiatek hasn’t lost a set in her last 11 matches. Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Bianca Andreescu and Victoria Azarenka have all been sidelined with much ease.
That is saying something about Swiatek.

Kasatkina’s form has been solid too so as far as confidence goes, the first-time Grand Slam semifinalist wouldn’t have to look elsewhere for inspiration.
Against a player like Swiatek though, the Russian will need a lot more than just confidence – she would need to do a lot better than the 57% first serve points won on her first serve as was the case in her quarterfinal win over Veronika Kudermetova. The 16-25 winners to unforced errors ratio will also need to change.
As far as the second semifinal between Cori Gauff and Martina Trevisan goes, things might not be as straightforward.
Bookmakers are offering 1/3 for a Gauff win, but Trevisan has shown her propensity to put up a fight and that tenacity could test the American youngster.
Sure, Trevisan hasn’t played a lot of top players en route making it this far but the first time she came up against Leylah Fernandez, having gone in at nearly 2/1 odds against her Canadian opponent, she showed what she is capable of.
Overcoming the loss of the second set tie-breaker, Trevisan stunned Fernandez 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3 to march into the semifinal of a Grand Slam for the first time ever – she has been a quarterfinalist at the 2020 French Open though.
And while Gauff will be a different cup of tea in terms of pedigree, Trevisan could still trouble her opponent here. A three-setter looks like a very likely result.
