Casper Ruud v Marin Cilic Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Ruud has won both previous times.
The first time they faced off was at the 2020 Rome Masters where Ruud cruised to a straight-set victory. He then needed three sets at the Toronto Masters last year to overcome Cilic and move into the third round.

Ruud 12-1 Since Madrid
Ruud might not have the brightest of starts to the clay court season but the manner in which he has taken off since his second round loss in Madrid is worth applauding.
Up until that point, the Norwegian was 4-4 on win-loss on clay between April and the first week of May.
The turnaround in fortunes came at Rome where Ruud stormed into the semifinals where he went down to Novak Djokovic, before completing another title win at Geneva. It was his eighth career competition win at the ATP level, of which seven have come on clay.
And having acquired that kind of confidence, Ruud has gone on to get the better of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Emil Ruusuvuori, Lorenzo Sonego, Hubert Hurkacz and Hoger Rune to reach this far here at Roland-Garros.
Rune, his quarterfinal opponent, did manage to snatch a set off him but Ruud came back to win the next two and the match to make it to his maiden Grand Slam semifinal.
Can he now move further on to a dream major final?

Cilic Defies Odds to Make the Semifinal
Cilic’s career record on clay isn’t as poor as it might look given his game is based on his serves. A 133-85 win-loss record on the red dirt speaks more about his ability to adjust to the surface than his struggles on it.
That being said, Cilic had never made it to the Roland-Garros semifinal before this, while being a five-time semifinalist at the other Grand Slam competitions. And Cilic has entered the final of all the other three majors.
Where Cilic has struggled on clay is to win a lot of titles – just two of his 20 tournament wins have come on this surface and none since 2017.
Which is why when he entered this competition on a 4-4 win-loss record on clay for the year, nobody was that surprised.
Three reasonable easy wins put him up against the second seeded Daniil Medvedev against whom Cilic was a 11/4 to win the encounter. He did so in straight sets.
And having again started off as a second favourite against another Russian, Andrey Rublev, in the quarterfinal, Cilic overcame the loss of the first set to win it in five.
Against a player who relishes playing on clay, things might get slightly more difficult but Cilic’s experience should hold him in a good stead here.
Ruud v Cilic Prediction and Tip
Ruud will start off a favourite here, with bet365 offering 11/25 for his win but we can easily see Cilic snapping up at least one set off his opponent. Over 3.5 sets in the match as well, which is 4/7 at the moment.
Tip: Ruud to win AND Over 3.5 sets: 5/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
