Greek No. 1 Stefanos Tsitsipas will continue his run in Sydney as he will go up against the veteran Italian Andreas Seppi in the quarterfinal at the Sydney International.

Stefanos’ Good Start to the Season
Tsitsipas, who has been awarded the top seed for the competition, enjoyed a bye into the second round. There, he faced the Argentinean Guido Andreozzi who spends most of his time competing on the Challenger Tour.
The World No. 15 didn’t have any difficulty in dispatching his Argentinean adversary. In roughly an hour and 15 minutes, Tsitsipas won the match 6-3, 6-4 thus starting his 2019 season on a winning note. He had every opportunity to finish the match early but Andreozzi was highly determined to not go down without a fight.
Tsitsipas’ spell in the previous season was absolutely brilliant, to say the least. He soared into the top 20 on the back of a sensational performance and he is now pegged as one of the leading players who can upset the top order.
He won the ATP Stockholm last year after defeating the likes of Fabio Fognini and Philipp Kohlschreiber. His best run, however, came at the Rogers Cup where he lost in the final to Rafael Nadal. Nonetheless, on his road to the final, he moved past some of the biggest names in tennis like Kevin Anderson, Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, and Dominic Thiem.
Seppi’s Entry into the Top 50
Seppi struggled with his form over the last couple of seasons before undergoing a resurgence of sorts in 2018. When he started the year, he was outside the top 80 but managed to finish it as the World No. 37. Early in the year, he won the Challenger event in Canberra following which, he reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and semifinal at the ATP Rotterdam.
He also reached the semifinal in Budapest and Moscow before finally calling it a season at the Paris Masters. Needless to mention, the 34-year-old didn’t win a singles title but did enough to move up in the rankings.
As for his run in 2019, he started by participating in the ATP Doha where he lost his opening match to Andrey Rublev. He then came to Sydney where he defeated Jeremy Chardy in the first round in three sets. In the second round, he met Martin Klizan and he edged past the Slovakian 7-6(2), 6-2.
Tsitsipas v Seppi – Who Will Win?
This is going to be the first time that the two players will face each other on the ATP Tour. Seppi is considerably more experienced than his Greek counterpart although, Tsitsipas is in a superior form. We can expect the Greek to win this match in three sets.
