Nadal in Form But Fitness Remains a Concern
The Spaniard is coming off one of the performances of his career at Roland-Garros but on the sometimes-slippery grass of Wimbledon things could play out differently.
Let’s take nothing away from Nadal on grass either, there have been a couple of Wimbledon titles under his belt already and the last couple of times he played hee, the Spaniard made it to the semifinals as well.
Nadal’s issue could be exacerbated by his foot injury as he suffers from a chronic condition called Mueller-Weiss Syndrome that makes it so difficult for him he actually announced he would prefer a cure for it rather than win at French Open.
The world number four will seek to derive from the heart he showed during the clay court season though. After getting ousted in the quarterfinals in Madrid and limping off the court against Denis Shapovalov in the third round of the Italian Open, Nadal came back to grab the title at French Open.
A crushing rout of Casper Ruud was preceded by a fine showing against Djokovic and a fighting effort against both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Zverev showing his various facets.
Can he now kick-start his campaign here in a hurry?

Cerúndolo at Career-High Ranking Despite Grass Debacle
Cerundolo has had a good time on clay all his career, and that includes one of his best seasons all around this year. There was a semifinal appearance at the Miami Masters too, in a showing to remember on a hard court surface.
Unfortunately, Cerundolo’s record on grass is almost not worth considering given how little he’s played on it.
The Argentine, who is at his career-high ranking of 42nd in the world at the moment, played just three qualifying round matches at Wimbledon last season and was sent packing in the third.
On the other hand, this year, he shocked Pedro Martinez in the first round of the Queen’s Club competition to record his first main draw win on grass. That, however, was followed by successive defeats to Ryan Peniston and Tommy Paul in that tournament and ATP Eastbourne respectively.
Can he give Nadal a bit of a working over especially given his opponent’s injury woes? Looks highly doubtful.
Nadal v Cerúndolo Prediction and Tip
Nadal should have no worries getting past his Argentine opponent who himself has established his clay court credentials. Straight-set win on the cards here.
