Before the start of the tournament, there were talks about Hubert Hurkacz being one of the players who could stall Novak Djokovic’s progress to another Wimbledon title. As it turned out, it was Davidovich Fokina put poured water over his opponent’s burning aspiration to go the distance at Wimbledon 2022.
Davidovich Fokina registered a 7-6 (4), 6-4, 5-7, 2-6, 7-6 (8) win over the Polish player, requiring three hours and 34 minutes to get to the result.
In fact things could have been a lot easier for the Spaniard when he took a two sets to love lead and was serving for the match at 5-3 in the third. Up three match-points, Davidovich Fokina squandered them all, lost five points in a row and was then broken yet again to lose the set.
Due credit to the Spaniard for then to get his act together by the fifth set, where Hurkacz had a chance to serve for the match at 5-4, but it was Davidovich Fokina who won it in a tie-breaker.

Vesely Eases Past Coria
It took Vesely less than two hours and three sets to motor past Federico Coria and seal his second round berth.
In a first round encounter that rarely saw Vesely lose control, he won 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (3), slamming down 22 aces and winning a whopping 90% of his first serve points.
In fact the only time that Vesely was broken was in the third set and he immediately dished out the same service to Coria before clinching it in a tie-breaker.
Coming into this encounter, Vesely had played at only the Ilkley Challenger where he made the quarterfinals before losing to Jack Sock. Overall too, Vesely has done well on grass, winning 21 of his 35 encounters which includes two four round appearances at Wimbledon.

While Davidovich Fokina will be on a high having gotten the better Hurkacz, Vesely will be a tough opponent to dislodge on grass and we might see a big tussle here.
