Steve Johnson v Stefan Kozlov Head to Head
Kozlov leads 3-1 head to head on the tour and is 4-2 including lower-level tournaments.
Kozlov is 2-0 on grass and also won at Delray Beach earlier this year. But their most recent match ended with Johnson scoring a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kozlov in the first qualifying round at Queen’s. Kozlov had earlier won a qualifier in Acapulco this year.

2018 champion Steve Johnson has an 8-5 record in Newport, but he lost in the opening rounds in his last two appearances in 2019 and 2021.
A four-time champion on the tour, the American had won the title in 2018, by defeating India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan in three sets.
The 32-year-old, who couldn’t go past the qualifiers in Queen’s and Eastbourne, made it to the third round at Wimbledon. While Grigor Dimitrov retired during their first round contest, Johnson defeated Ryan Peniston in the second round before going down to Cameron Norrie in the third round.
Johnson has an overall career record of 34-28 on grass. This year, he brings a season record of 10-9 into the tournament and has won consecutive matches just twice in Indian Wells and Wimbledon.
He will be hoping to make a good start in Newport.

Kozlov Having A Tough Time on Grass
World No. 107 Stefan Kozlov is 3-5 from all competitions on grass this year.
He won one and lost one in Surbiton, lost in the first qualifying rounds in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Queen’s before making the main draw at Wimbledon as a lucky loser. But his Wimbledon debut ended with a straight sets defeat to Diego Schwartzman.
The 24-year-old, who won three Challenger titles from four finals last year, has had a tough time this year, with a quarterfinal appearance in Delray Beach being his best. He has not been able to succeed in other tournaments, making plenty of first round exits even at the lower levels. While he will be hoping for a change of fortune in Newport, he doesn’t have a great record in the tournament.
Kozlov is 1-3 in Newport, with the only win coming in the first round in 2016.
