Daniel Evans v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
Nishioka has won all four of their previous meetings, beating Evans in Atlanta in 2016, Washington in 2019, Australian Open in 2020 and the Miami Open this year.

World No. 40 Daniel Evans saved a match point in the second set tiebreak and then raced to a 4-1 lead in the third set with three breaks of serve, before a completely drained Taylor Fritz retired from the contest.
The World no. 13 looked ill and found it tough to continue in the hot and humid conditions. He had won the opening set with ease, but the Briton made a remarkable comeback in the contest to to win 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), 4-1 (retired) in two hours and 15 minutes.
With the win, the 16th seed improved to 15-16 for the season. After receiving a first-round bye, Evans had defeated compatriot Kyle Edmund 6-1, 6-2 in the second round on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old, making his fourth appearance in Washington, is into the last eight for the first time. This is the second time that Evans has reached the quarterfinals on the tour this year. Last time he reached this far, he went on to reach the semifinals in Sydney. Evans also won his ninth Challenger title this year, triumphing in Nottingham.
He will be hoping to reach another semifinal on Friday.

Nishioka’s Impressive Run Continues
World No. 96 Yoshihito Nishioka knocked out another seed on Thursday to keep his stunning running going in Washington.
The Japanese, who defeated World No. 37 Jenson Brooksby in the first round and 11th seed and World No. 21 Alex de Minaur in the next, ousted the seventh seed Karen Khachanov in the third round on Thursday to enter a second quarterfinal of the season.
The 26-year-old lefty needed two hours and 19 minutes to beat the Russian 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1). While neither player was able to break in the first set, Nishioka squandered four set points in the 10th game. In the second set, the World no. 24 Khachanov had built a 0-3 lead, but the Japanese player got the break back before eventually winning a second tiebreak and taking the contest.
Nishioka had beaten Brooksby 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round and had fought back from a set down to beat De Minaur 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in the second round.
The 2018 Shenzhen Open champion and 2020 Delray Beach finalist, had made it to the quarterfinals in Acapulco and went from qualifiers to the third round in Miami. Can he reach his first semifinal of the season.
