Kaia Kanepi v Ludmilla Samsonova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the first round of the 2021 Wimbledon where Samsonova won in straight sets to make it to the second round.

Kanepi Sends Out Saville
It was Kanepi’s experience that helped her down the Aussie Daria Saville in the semifinal and get her within a win of her first ever WTA title since 2013.
Kanepi, who had come into the encounter as a slight underdog against Saville, came through easily, winning 6-3, 6-1 to reach the final.
This victory followed a straight-set win in the first round over Greet Minnen before Kanepi was taken to three sets by both Lin Zhu and Anna Kalinskaya in her previous two matches.
It will be interesting to see how Kanepi goes in the final having last featured in one in February 2021 in Melbourne. There, she had gone down to Elise Mertens and now faces an opponent who might be ranked a few places behind her but has beaten her in their only previous match-up.

Samsonova Blasts Wang
Much like Kanepi, Samsonova did not waste any time on court when she ousted Xiyu Wang in her semifinal here. The Russian, and world number 60 dropped just two games in her one hour, four minute rout of Wang to make it to the title-decider.
Samsonova faced just one break-point in the entire encounter, which she saved but in turn broke her Chinese opponent five times across the two sets.
This followed by a stunning victory for Samsonova against Emma Raducanu, whom she overcame in straight sets after having sent Ajla Tomljanovic and Elise Mertens packing as well.
Overall this season, however, Samsonova had a underwhelming record in hard court competitions. having won just five of her 11 main draw matches before this tournament. Can she let this momentum help her win her second career WTA title?
