Nikoloz Basilashvili v Arthur Rinderknech Head to Head

Having come into this tournament on the back of a six-match losing streak, Basilashvili looked like he was headed the way of a seventh defeat in a row against Zizou Bergs.
Basilashvili was trailing by a set against Bergs when his opponent had to retire from the encounter because of fitness trouble. Interestingly, despite Basilashvili being the fifth seed and Bergs starting out as a qualifier, it was the latter who had started off as a 1/2 favourite and was living up to those odds.
What this win does is allows Basilashvili some breathing space as he looks to recapture some of the form that had seen him make the final in Doha earlier this year.
He is up against a player who has done reasonably well in hard court competitions in his career though, so that could be bit of a challenge for Basilashvili.

Rinderknech Squeaks Past Munar
Starting out as a favourite against Jaume Munar, Rinderknech did make it through to the second round in the end but not before he had been pushed to the brink.
Rinderknech came through 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 in two hours and six minutes despite having fallen 4-1 behind in the final set.
In the end, a break of serve in the seventh game of the third set and then again to love in the 11th game brought Rinderknech back into the driver’s seat from where he served it out to love to clinch the encounter.
He now goes up against a player struggling for form and someone who is probably lucky to have made it there. Expect Rinderknech to start off on a strong note.
