In what turned out to be a rather close encounter, Bublik needed three sets to get past his second round opponent, Emil Ruusuvuori.
Bublik was on court for two hours and 14 minutes as he carved out a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Ruusuvuori and in turn won back to back matches for the first time since his time in Newport.
Having gotten himself a chance to serve out the first set at 5-4, Bublik missed out on four set-points before losing the set in disappointing fashion in the tie-breaker. And when he fell a break behind in the second, it looked like the writing was on the wall.
Except that it wasn’t with Bublik fighting back to break his opponent twice in the second set and another time in the decider to claim the encounter.

Rune Crashes Bonzi’s Party
Rune’s form had been so appalling come into this encounter that despite being a seeded player with a first round bye, he was starting out a 7/5 underdog to eke out a win over Benjamin Bonzi.
He need not have been worried as the Danish player cruised to a 6-4, 4-1 win over Bonzi to seal his first quarterfinal appearance since the French Open in May. The match ended with Bonzi’s retirement as Rune looked to ease past his opponent even without that.
Rune broke Bonzi once in the opening set and twice in the second before the Frenchman threw in the towel.
Against Bublik, however, the clay-court specialist Rune might not have it as easy given his recent form has been anything but brilliant.
